Location: [Not specified]
Industry: Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical / Data Science
About the Role
A fast-growing biotech company focused on drug discovery and development is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to help build and scale a cutting-edge platform that integrates genomics with longitudinal clinical and imaging data. This interdisciplinary team leverages clinical science, statistical genetics, machine learning, and drug discovery to identify genetic drivers of disease, advance novel therapeutics, and develop data-driven approaches to patient stratification.
Currently advancing multiple programs in ophthalmology (including dry age-related conditions) and early-stage discovery efforts in other therapeutic areas, the company is seeking a data scientist to drive novel insights and solutions using a rich, real-world dataset.
Key Responsibilities
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Data Science, Clinical, Genetics) to develop and validate disease progression models, clinical endpoints, and stratification strategies using longitudinal real-world data.
-
Design and implement advanced models and methodologies to inform clinical trial design, including patient targeting and endpoint optimization.
-
Create novel digital biomarkers and longitudinal phenotypes that align with clinical endpoints to enhance target discovery efforts.
-
Build and maintain data science products such as dashboards, pipelines, and models to support internal discovery and clinical teams.
Skills & Qualifications
-
PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or related field, or Master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
-
Proven ability to lead end-to-end data science projects from problem definition to deployment.
-
Strong coding skills in Python and familiarity with modern data science libraries (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
-
Working knowledge of statistical techniques including GLMs, mixed models, experimental design, imputation, and dimensionality reduction.
-
Experience with longitudinal biomedical data, including electronic medical records (EMRs).
-
Background in applying computer vision techniques (e.g., CNNs) to biomedical imaging data.
-
Strong analytical mindset and effective communication skills with the ability to work across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with clinical trial design and biomarker development.
-
Familiarity with ophthalmology-related data and segmentation models.
-
Experience working with genetics datasets, including GWAS and functional genomics analyses.
